New governance with AI and Big Data
Artificial lntelligence is already having a dramatic and increasing impact for cities, ranging from transportation to public safety, work space and governance. This research will be based on rethinking cybernetic approaches – that date back from the 1970s – using new network and computational tools.
However, the value of Al goes way beyond the common fields of computer sciences and mathematics: Al is “a cultural shift as much as a technical one” (Crawford and Calo, 2016). Thus, one of the goals of this project is to create a portfolio of open application programming interfaces (APls) infused with Al to be used to gather data from the environment and urban dynamics, as well as to optimize urban infrastructures, public services, and civic engagement. Also, using quantitative data and societal information, traditional indicators, such as GDP can be improved and eventually replaced with better measures.
