What is Senseable Stockholm Lab?
Senseable Stockholm Lab (SSL) was founded in 2019 and is a collaboration between the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the City of Stockholm, with support from the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and Newsec.
The vision behind Senseable Stockholm Lab is the smart city with research that originates in the challenges around environmental monitoring, climate, social inclusion, urban development and infrastructure, as well as public governance.
The research conducted in the lab aims to develop new knowledge, new methods and tools to increase the understanding of both the natural and built environment in cities in order to create a sustainable urban experience that helps and develops people, institutions, nature and infrastructure.
Three thematic areas for research have been identified:
- Sensing the city: data for environmental analysis
- The resilience, security and integrity of the intelligent city
- New control with artificial intelligence and data.
The lab focuses on several sectors:
- climate
- attractiveness,
- segregation/security
- energy
- mobility and transport.
Within Senseable Stockholm Lab's initiative in Kista, there is a collaboration with Kista Science City with the goal of creating a new era of research and education in digitization and sustainable urban solutions in Kista, which combines the very latest research on cities, IoT and AI.
